2003 Canadian Hickory Championship

The tournament results ...

This year's Championship featured the continuaation and expansion of the Ryder Cup-style competition in which 6 two-man teams from Canada and the US competed in 3 formats using hickory golf clubs. The first 9 holes is an alternate shot format, the second 9 holes is played best ball, and the final 9 holes in a two-man scramble format. The weather was very cooperative with light winds and 30C temperatures (88F) and the players really enjoyed the competition. All matches were very close with the Canadian team finally prevailing 12.5 points to 5.5 points. All in all a great day for golf!

Friday featured the 36-hole Canadian Open Championship coupled with the annual Legends tournament followed by a barbecue and awards ceremony. This years Champion was Paul Biocini of Modesto, California who shot 72, 71 for a total of 1 under par for 36 holes...excellent golf and well deserved. Paul has travelled to the Legends each of the previous 4 years and broke through in grand style this year. Second place at one stroke back went to Glen Jevnie of Wetaskiwin, Alberta followed by Randy Jensen from Omaha and Michael Ream from Morinville, Alberta.

The weather was very cooperative, the company great and excellent golf leaving everyone looking forward to next years tournament.
